Arctic enthousiast and renowned photographer Florian LeDoux will show us the wonders of Svalbard
We still remember when we saw Florian for the first time. It was clear this was a man on a mission: a rugged beard and clothes, a basic cabin boat with the bare minimum for transport and survival. It was the day he shot the iconic picture of the polar bear in front of Ocean Sherpa, which we celebrated with a beer afterwards; it was the start of a friendship. Florian’s friendly and modest demeanor hides who he truly is: a fanatic photographer and filmmaker, renowned for his work that captures the essence of the Arctic. With Florian, it’s not only about taking amazing pictures. It’s about connecting with nature, embracing adventure, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
A photo adventure
This trip will not be a seven day workshop. It will be an adventure, with lots of once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities. We will cruise along the west coast of Svalbard and Florian will use his experience to find the spots where you can immerse yourself in nature. Svalbard-based wildlife photographer Aztrid Novillo, also passionate about the Arctic, will be there to assist you.
The ship will cruise to spots you can only reach by boat. Our fast and sturdy expedition Zodiacs will help you spot seals, birds, Arctic foxes and polar bears in their natural habitat. During the surreal experience of continuous daylight you explore and photograph the landscape and sea life; on land, hiking offers you scenery up close as well as panoramic views. There will be countless opportunities to take amazing pictures.
Day 1: Longyearbyen – Welcome aboard!
Your journey begins in Longyearbyen port, where you’ll board our elegant sailing yacht in the afternoon (17.00 hrs local time). Once settled into your cozy cabin, featuring a private sink and shower, it’s time to meet the crew and the photographers, who will introduce you to the week ahead. After the captain’s safety briefing you gather in the saloon for a welcome dinner prepared by our chef. While cruising, you can get to know your fellow explorers and start your adventure.
Day 2-6: Explore, immerse, enjoy!
Once on board, life slows down. As your cellphone loses connection, you’ll start to follow the pace of nature. Each day on this trip unfolds differently, shaped by the weather, the wildlife, and the group’s adventurous spirit. We aim to capture the essence of exploration, where no two days feel the same. Depending on the wildlife we encounter we will use the ship or the Zodiac to create the best photo opportunities.
Day 7:
Back in port, a final breakfast will energize you for your departure. With enough pictures taken to fill a coffee table book, you can exchange contact details and say goodbye to your new friends.
