Each fall and winter, the fjords of Northern Norway transform into a hotspot for marine life and celestial spectacle. From late October to mid-January, vast shoals of Atlantic herring gather in the icy waters north of Tromsø, attracting majestic orcas and whales that forage in their natural habitat—creating one of the world’s most spectacular natural events: the Arctic whale season. At the same time, Tromsø’s location directly under the Northern Lights belt makes it one of the most reliable places to see the Aurora Borealis. Between September and April, especially during the dark polar nights from November to January, the vibrant pink and green colors of the Northern Lights are often visible in the sky.
